Outdoor Kitchens & Lanai Wailea Makena

Fully equipped outdoor kitchens and covered lanai spaces designed for Maui's outdoor lifestyle — and built to perform in its climate.

The Outdoor Kitchen Standard for Wailea & Makena Properties

In South Maui's climate, the distinction between indoor and outdoor living largely disappears. Wailea and Makena homes are designed to flow outward — to the lanai, the pool deck, the garden. An outdoor kitchen that can genuinely function as a primary entertaining space, rather than a secondary grill station, is the natural extension of that design philosophy. When built properly, it transforms a backyard into the focal point of the property.

The challenge is building outdoor kitchens that actually hold up in Hawaii's environment. Salt air corrodes unprepared stainless at a rate that surprises most mainland homeowners. Consistent heat and UV degrade cabinet faces, countertops, and finishes that perform perfectly in a Phoenix or Florida climate but weren't spec'd for the specific combination of UV intensity, humidity swings, and salt exposure you get in coastal Wailea. We source appliances, cabinetry systems, and countertop materials rated explicitly for marine environments — because anything less is a maintenance liability within the first two years.

For vacation-rental properties, a well-designed outdoor kitchen with covered lanai space is one of the most-searched amenity combinations on luxury rental platforms. Guests booking at Wailea's price points expect to entertain, to cook, and to live outdoors — and properties that enable that experience earn the reviews and repeat bookings that sustain premium rates. We design outdoor kitchens with the rental use case in mind: durable, easy to clean, intuitive to use, and impressive in photography.

Covered lanai structures adjacent to outdoor kitchens require structural engineering and typically a County of Maui building permit. We manage the design-permit-build sequence end to end, coordinating with your architect if one is involved, or leading the design ourselves for properties that don't have one engaged.

Our Build Process

Step 1

Design Consultation

We assess the space, your cooking and entertaining priorities, and HOA requirements before presenting layout and material options.

Step 2

Permits & Engineering

Structural drawings and permit documentation are prepared and submitted for any covered lanai or structural components.

Step 3

Foundation & Framing

Concrete footings, masonry or steel framing, and rough-in utility connections (gas, electric, water) are completed.

Step 4

Finishes & Appliances

Marine-grade cabinetry, countertops, and appliances are installed. Countertop material, tile, and finish selections are finalized in the design phase.

Step 5

Final Inspection

All systems are tested, permits are closed, and we walk through operation of appliances and systems with you.
